He learned classical guitar from his grandfather and has recorded and performed under the Trio Velazquez/Smiley Velazquez name. His Texas-made album "Keep Smiling" was produced with support from the City of Austin Live Music Fund and had its release at the Puerto Rican Cultural Center in East Austin; he maintains an active live schedule and distributes music via Bandcamp.
