Aaron Stephens

Aaron established himself in the Austin soul scene pre-Covid, playing notable Texas venues such as Gruene Hall, Antone’s and the Continental Club regularly. A 2021 appearance at ACL Fest in 2021 and support dates with Marcus King and Leon Bridges culminated with his first nomination for Best Soul Act at the prestigious Austin Music Awards. Born in Illinois, raised on the Texas-Mexico border, and now residing near Austin, Texas, soul singer-songwriter Aaron Stephens is a triple threat. Blessed with a warm, rich voice that hearkens to soul legends such as Bill Withers and Al Green, paired with bluesy, rootsy, Derek Trucks-inspired slide guitar, Stephens‘ sound is brought together through his own imaginative arrangements and methodical songwriting that can be both introspective and broad-reaching, drawing inspiration from soul, blues, roots, pop, and funk. The Austin Chronicle writes “Stephens executes all these styles well, gliding through genres and emotions”. He’s recently taken up lap steel (video live at C-Boy’s Heart & Soul) giving him a slightly more Americana tilt at times, but at his core he still holds his strong, soulful sound, akin to Ben Harper or Robert Randolph.
